Jaap Kalverkamp

Jaap Kalverkamp is a seasoned international banking executive with over 33 years of experience across multiple roles, countries, and business lines. As Partner at Synergy Capital since 2023, he brings deep expertise in global finance and leadership. Jaap began his career in 1992 at Bank Mees & Hope’s ship finance department, expanding operations in Norway and Greece. He moved to Singapore to establish MeesPierson’s Asian ship finance activity and served as the regional head. In 2001, he was appointed global head of ship financing at Fortis Bank, driving global expansion and private equity transactions. Jaap later served as Head of Merchant Banking Asia in Hong Kong, overseeing corporate banking across the Asia Pacific region. He played a key role in the ABN AMRO-Fortis Bank merger and held senior leadership roles for ABN AMRO in Amsterdam, New York, and Asia.
A Dutch citizen, Jaap holds a Master’s in Maritime Engineering. He served in the Royal Dutch Navy and completed executive training at IMD and INSEAD. Jaap holds an International Directors certificate from Insead and currently serves on two Boards.
Jaap is a passionate sailor and has also worked as a shipbroker, reflecting his deep connection to the maritime world. As a sailor he has twice sailed across the Atlantic and has participated in various world championships.
Jaap is on the Board of ‘Join for Joy’ actively supporting their vision that every child can go to school, can have fun with an open mind, is given equal opportunities, and can work on their physical and mental health.
