Davinder Chugh

Davinder Chugh brings over four decades of leadership and operational expertise to Synergy Capital, where he has played a key role since joining in 2016. As Senior Partner and COO, Davinder leads the Operating Team and serves as a member of the Investment Committee, providing strategic guidance and supporting businesses emerging from crisis to achieve market leadership.

Prior to Synergy Capital, Davinder enjoyed a distinguished 20-year career at ArcelorMittal, including a decade at the Group Management Board level as CEO for the Africa & CIS segment. In this capacity, he was responsible for the mining and steel businesses in South Africa, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Algeria, as well as overseeing ArcelorMittal International—the group’s global export arm. He led Shared Services, managing Purchasing, Shipping and Logistics, Legal, IT, Real Estate, and By-Products management, and earlier served as CEO of ArcelorMittal South Africa, a major company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Davinder was also a member of ArcelorMittal’s Investment Allocation Committee and the core Mergers & Acquisition team, further enhancing his global perspective and techno-commercial acumen.

Earlier in his career, Davinder spent 18 years at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), reinforcing his reputation as a highly regarded techno-commercial expert. He has acquired extensive experience in performance audits, benchmarking, restructuring, and turnaround management — skills he now leverages to advise and support businesses facing complex challenges.

Davinder holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics, an MBA, and a law degree (LLB) from universities in India, reflecting a robust academic foundation that complements his industry experience. Twice conferred the Best Executive Award while at SAIL, he is also a regular speaker and moderator at prestigious international events in the metal and mining industry.

Beyond his professional achievements, Davinder enjoys music and freehand sketching, balancing his analytical mindset with creative expression.
