2024 World Thalassemia Day

09 May 2024

On World Thalassemia Day, marked by this year's theme 'Empowering Lives, Embracing Progress: Equitable and Accessible Thalassaemia Treatment for All,' Synergy Capital and Maheshwari Foundation unveiled the Thalassemia Unit at the Lions Club of Howrah Blood Centre in India. At the inaugural event, six children underwent blood transfusions.

What is World Thalassemia Day, and why does it matter?
World Thalassemia Day, established in 1994 by the Thalassemia International Federation (TIF), honors the memory of Panos Englezos's son, who succumbed to the disease. It serves as a poignant reminder of the global impact of thalassemia.

What is Thalassemia?
Thalassemia encompasses a spectrum of inherited blood disorders characterized by diminished production of healthy red blood cells. Individuals with thalassemia lack adequate hemoglobin, the essential protein responsible for oxygen transportation in the body.

Synergy Capital and Maheshwari Foundation are committed to raising awareness about thalassemia and providing support to affected children and their families, aiming to alleviate their challenges.
